Kevin Gauld has been making Orkney furniture for nine years, since he left school at sixteen to become an apprentice with a local firm. He is now one of a growing band of young Orcadians using the traditional crafts in original ways and producing beautiful pieces that will last a lifetime. There is a choice of tops for most of the tables. The stone top is polished flagstone from Gairsty in Sandwick. When I visted the workshop, I found it very difficult to stop stroking the table top, as it has a wonderful silky feel.
