Thin Oatcakes

High in fibre and full of oaty goodness, these oatcakes are hand-made in Stromness. They are made with non-hydrogenated vegetable oil and contain no added sugar. They are delicious with a variety of toppings - my favourites are Orkney cheddar or honey.

During the war, the building at the north end of Stromness where these oatcakes are made was the Broken Bulk Store, which supplied stores to the dozens of army camps. One of my aunts worked there and she said the worst part was having to weigh out ground pepper by the pound.
