Turquoise Raku Sphere
Raku pottery originated in Japan. The pre-fired pots are heated rapidly to 1000 degrees Centigrade then plunged into a container of sawdust. This stops the pots getting oxygen from the air, so they have to take it from the oxides in the glaze, creating the lovely colours.
Being hand-made, no two pieces are identical so we can't guarantee it will look exactly like the pot illustrated here but it will be very similar. They make take a day or two to come in from the potter on Shapinsay. When an order is placed we check with David and let the customer know when it will be sent.
Approx 8cm diameter, 7 cm high
