Raku Bowl
Raku pottery originated in Japan and was the traditional method of making bowls for the tea ceremony. Pieces are removed from the kiln while the glaze is still molten, causing the distinctive, and unpredictable, cracking in the glaze. Plunging the pieces into sawdust removes oxygen from the glaze, producing deep colours such as the turquiose and copper in this bowl.
All the bowls of a particular design are very similar although each piece is unique.
