Lesser Known Aspects of St Magnus Cathedral

As my father was a friend of the long-serving custodian of the cathedral, Albert Thomson, I visited the building many times and was even shown the hangman’s ladder and the workings of the clock. However, many of the pictures and facts in this fascinating book were completely new to me. The seventy illustrations include pictures of the interior before its restoration, Stanley Cursiter’s paintings of the restoration process and pictures of stone carvings the visitors probably never notice.

This is an essential addition to any Orkney bookshelf and will make you appreciate still more the wonder of St Magnus Cathedral.
