William Garson
William Garson, born in Stromness, established a limestone quarry 40 km NW of Winnipeg in 1898. This was the first of five quarries of Tyndall limestone that is widely used in Canada. It was used for the Manitoba Legislative Building, the Hall of Fame in the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.
The village of Garson, now part of the rural municipality of Brokenhead, was named after him in 1927.
His son Stuart became Premier of Manitoba.
