Orkney Webcams

Welcome to our page of Orkney webcams, which we're working on expanding. If you're interested in Orkney, you might like to take a look at a few of our other pages.

In our on-line shop you can buy Orkney food that is famous for its quality or choose from a wonderful variety of Orkney books, crafts, furniture and more.

In the Biographies in the Orkney Roots section you'll find Orcadians on both sides of the American Revolution, fighting in Afghanistan, making their fortunes in the United States, boarding the Mary Celeste, editing the Encyclopedia Britannica and exploring the Arctic.

You can sign up to receive a short e-mail about Orkney and Orcadians every day.

If you'd like to find out more about Orkney, take a look at Charles Tait's Guide Book in the Information section.

To see more images of Orkney, take a look through the Orkney Window.

Stromness Harbour looking SE

This camera, on the first floor of Tim and Jenny Barthorpe's house in Stromness, looks across the harbour, between the Outer Holm and the Point of Ness, to Houton Head in Orphir. The house used to be part of the 18th Century Login's Inn. You can find out more about Stromness and see lots of pictures in the Stromness chapter of Charles Tait's guide book.

St Magnus Cathedral, Kirkwall

This is the view from the first floor office of the Long Partnership, on the corner of Castle Street and Broad Street in Kirkwall. Looking south-east down Broad Street, you can see the Kirk Green and part of St Magnus Cathedral. Read about the history of the cathedral in the guide book.

The ornate gate between the Kirk Green and the kirk-yard is the war memorial. The white building just showing on the left is the Tourist Office.

Maeshowe Solstice

Charles Tait has his webcam in Maeshowe again this year so that, weather permitting, you can see the setting sun shining down the entrance tunnel and lighting the back wall of the chamber. The camera is live from 14.00 to 16.00 GMT every day. If you go to the webcam site you can see images from yesterday.
